Employee Spotlight: Tom, Head of Marketing

Introduce yourself!

I’m Tom, Signable’s Head of Marketing and I joined the company in May 2018. Initially, I came in as a Marketing Executive,  working on a variety of different projects but mainly responsible for Signable’s PPC marketing. Over time I’ve worn a few hats as Senior Marketing Executive, Brand, and Marketing Manager, and Head of Marketing.

What inspired you to start a career in Marketing?

It’s something that I’ve always had an interest in and felt I had the potential to be pretty good at. Combine that with a college course with a surprisingly low barrier to entry and boom, I was off to the races. Once I got started I was fortunate to have some great teachers and great guidance.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

I’ve enjoyed being a part of the growth of the company over the past few years. Looking at how far things have come and the impact we’ve been able to have from our roles in the marketing team is something that I feel we can look at with pride. I also enjoy the ever-changing nature of the role, whilst there are consistent responsibilities I think it’s fair to say that there are a ton of opportunities for trying different things and for growth and development.

What opportunities has Domo given you?

Outside of my current role and the opportunity that presents, I’ve always been happy to see the number of different events and conferences we’ve been able to go to around the country. Events like BrightonSEO have been incredibly useful for my development.

What have you learned at Domo?

Management and leadership skills. Lots of practical marketing skills. Patience.

If you could give one piece of advice to a new starter, what would it be?

I think initially the most important things can be boiled down to getting to know the product and the people.

How is Domo different from other companies you’ve worked for?

The company takes its culture very seriously and follows through actions not just words. The reaction to the pandemic and the resulting lockdown was great, there was a concerted effort to make every member of the team feel comfortable and secure in their role. Also, the company retreat is fantastic and something for everyone to look forward to.As a marketer, I appreciate that we can try lots of different things and that when they don’t go to plan it’s treated more as an opportunity to learn and improve in the future than it is seen as a negative.
