Employee Spotlight: Katy, Head of Operations
I’m Katy, Head of Operations, I started in August 2018. I started as Office Manager, I was employee number 10 and we had just moved into our current offices on Unity Street on the second floor. Now we are 40 people and counting, we have 2 floors of offices and I am Head of Operations.I started doing general office management, bookkeeping, and helping with well-being initiatives. have learned so much in the past few years and my role now is unrecognisable from when I started.
What opportunities has Domo given you?
To grow both a family and a career. When I started at Domo I was a single mum and my son had just turned 3. Domo has allowed me to grow professionally, personally, and support my family. The fact that I have child care commitments hasn’t held me back from developing my career.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
For me, it’s the people I work with and the opportunity for learning and growth. I love a problem solved and a process improved, there’s lots of opportunities to make a positive impact. I love variety and have a broad range of skills and interests so Operations is an area where I can be involved in lots of different things and use those different skills.I get to work on really interesting projects like organising the company retreat, designing new offices, implementing well-being initiatives to support the team.
How is Domo different from other companies you’ve worked for?
I think as a company we’re very welcoming and down to earth, you can be yourself here. Olly often says that “you’re not just an employee, you’re a whole person with a life outside of work” and the company really supports that.We have really generous and supportive policies that allow for a genuine work/life balance. We’re a very human company, full of really great people.
What have you learned at Domo?
Iterate! Do it messy and get better as you go. Get it done and then take on the feedback to make it better for next time and repeat.
If you could give one piece of advice to a new starter, what would it be?
Be prepared to get stuck in and make it your own. We’re a growing company, the opportunities to make a positive difference are huge. You won’t have a long, boring induction period, expect to be making an impact in your first week.
